Technical Resource - Tyres
When the Zetec engined cars were introduced in 1993 they first ran on treaded Dounlop tyres, switching to the Kent specification ACB10 tyre in 1994 when Jason Watt took the British title for Vector. In 1995 slick racing tyres were adopted into Formula Ford for the first time and Avon were chosen to supply them. At this time other changes to the rules were made, including the option to run aluminium brake calipers and alloy wheels.
The control specification crossply tyres are both compliant and durable with a set of new tyres remaining competitive for at least 5 weekends of racing or more and there after remain perfectly usable as testing tyre. A control wet weather tyre is also in use.
